FBI Investigating Claimed Breach of fbijobs.gov Hiring Portal

The FBI says it is looking into a cybercriminal group's claim that it broke into the bureau's job application website and stole employee personal information.

The FBI says it is aware of a cybercriminal group claiming to have broken into fbijobs.gov, the bureau’s online hiring portal, and stolen personal information belonging to FBI employees.

According to the FBI, investigators have not yet determined where the breach actually occurred — whether through the FBI’s own computer systems or through one of the outside companies that help run the fbijobs.gov site.

The bureau says it is “actively and aggressively investigating this matter” and working with the third-party providers that support the portal to limit any potential harm, according to the FBI.

Personally identifiable information, often shortened to PII, refers to details like names, addresses, or other data that can be used to identify a specific person. When this kind of information is exposed, it can sometimes be used by criminals for identity theft or targeted scams.

At this stage, the FBI has confirmed only that it is aware of the group’s claims and is investigating them, not that the alleged theft of employee data has been verified. The bureau has not released further details about the scope of the claimed compromise or how many people might be affected.

The FBI did not provide guidance for the public in this statement, as the matter involves bureau employees rather than members of the public. Anyone following this story should watch for official updates directly from the FBI as the investigation continues, since the bureau has not yet confirmed the extent or source of the alleged breach.
