FBI Investigating Claimed Breach of fbijobs.gov Hiring Portal

A cybercriminal group claims it compromised the FBI's job-application website and accessed personal information belonging to FBI employees.

The FBI says it is investigating claims from a cybercriminal group that the agency’s job-application website, fbijobs.gov, was breached and that personal information belonging to FBI employees may have been exposed.

According to the FBI, investigators have not yet determined where the breach originated — whether through the FBI’s own systems or through a third-party company that helps run the fbijobs.gov site. The bureau says it is working with those outside technology partners to investigate and reduce any potential risk.

The FBI described its response in a statement, saying it is “actively and aggressively investigating this matter and working closely with those third-party providers that support fbijobs.gov to mitigate any and all risk.”

For ordinary readers, the incident is a reminder of a now-familiar risk: government and corporate hiring sites collect sensitive personal details — the kind of information, known as personally identifiable information (PII), that can include names, addresses, and other data used to apply for jobs. When such sites are compromised, that information can end up in the hands of criminals who may use it for identity theft or targeted scams.

The FBI has not confirmed the scope of the alleged breach or which specific data may have been affected, and the investigation is ongoing.
